BEAUTY is more than skin deep with French natural products company L'Occitane which has just opened its second kingdom store in Bahrain City Centre.

The story of this upmarket, ethical brand began in 1976 in the hills of the Haute-Provence region of southern France, between the Alps and the Mediterranean where founder Olivier Baussan was born.

And for more than 30 years the traditions and techniques of this unspoiled land have been the secret and inspiration behind his beauty products which are developed and produced in the small Provencal town of Manosque.

L'Occitane offers an ethical and ecologically friendly range of rich skin care products from bath and massage oils to anti-aging face creams and perfumes.

And there is a story behind many of the products such as the creation in 2006 of the first large-scale organic planting of Immortelle, the native Corsican plant which had become threatened by its own wrinkle reducing reputation, and which now forms the basis of L'Occitane's immortelle skin care range.

The company also introduced a sustainable development programme in Burkina Faso, Africa, to produce the shea butter which is ever popular for those in the beauty industry.

And, if you prefer your beauty products cruelty free, L'Occitane is the place to look since the company does not test any of its products on animals.
