Bahrain City Centre is to stage a 'Children and Mothers Exhibition' in the run up to March 21 to coincide with Mothers' Day, a campaign chosen to highlight the 'often taken for granted' talents of mums.
Held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa, president of the Children & Mothers Welfare Society and in conjunction with her organisation, the shopping and leisure destination is presenting a show dedicated to the achievements of mums across the island, whether they be businesswomen, artisans or housewives.
The produce on display created or prepared by industrious and talented women includes Arabic sweets, nuts, spices, antiques, herbal products, accessories and pottery.
There will also a demonstration of the making of palm leaf paper to enjoy, with all proceeds from sales going to those in need.
It is the first time that the annual exhibition, which raises funds for charities under its umbrella, is being held outside the Children & Mothers Welfare Society's premises.
The new association reflects the centre's contribution to the local community through its ongoing programme of social services and events, its management said.
Inaugurating the show Shaikha Hind, said: "I am very happy to officially open the first Children and Mothers Exhibition to take place in Bahrain City Centre.
"I would like to thank the Centre for kindly offering to host the show and giving each participant the chance to display their many talents."
Derek Rossel, Bahrain City Centre's general manager, explained his enthusiasm for staging the event. "Bahrain City Centre is pleased to have the opportunity to present this exhibition, as we aim to become an essential part of the community," he said. "The Mother & Child Welfare Society does such sterling work in Bahrain that we couldn't turn it down. We urge everyone to come and support this wonderful initiative."
In Bahrain, Mothers Day is called Ruz-e Madar which coincides with the first day of spring observed as March 21. Mothers Day 2009 falls on Sunday, March 22 in the UK.
To coincide with the exhibition, Bahrain City Centre has also launched a promotional campaign to celebrate Mothers Day.
The scheme offers three shoppers the opportunity to win a diamond set, along with BD3,500 worth of gift vouchers, when they spend a minimum of BD20 from the mall's 330 stores.
