Gulf Weekly SUV is class apart

The new Audi Q5 SUV was launched on the beach at the Bahrain Yacht Club, Sitra with the backdrop of the sea complemented with a pleasant, yet chilly, wind.

The premium five-seater SUV Audi Q5 is claimed to be the most important launch of the year by the Audi Centre Bahrain.

Pieter Kruger, dealer principal at Audi Bahrain, said: "Change is the big word of the day and in developing this car AUDI AG was not only looking to fill a pre-existing segment, but to redefine it ... to set standards and challenge the convention.

"This launch does come at a difficult time but at Audi we see this as an opportunity to increase our market share. Big things are ahead for Audi."

The Audi Q5 combines the dynamism of a sports sedan with interior and options for leisure-time and family use.

It features strong and efficient engines, quattro permanent all-wheel drive with a 40:60 asymmetric/dynamic torque split and agile running gear to create a superior technology package for both on and off-road driving.

The interiors have a myriad of intelligent functions and highlights such as the innovative seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission and the Audi drive select control system.

Other features include a roof load sensor that allows the ESP (electronic stabilisation programme) to adjust to the higher centre of gravity caused by roof loads, innovative driver assistance and safety systems like the Audi parking system advanced with rear view camera, a navigation system with three-dimensional maps and the high-beam assistant which automatically switches between the high and low beams, the Audi side assist which monitors the vehicle blind spot and the adaptive cruise control which maintains a constant distance from the vehicle in front.

The triple-zone climate control system, the intelligent chip key with keyless entry and electromechanical parking brake guarantee the highest levels of convenience for the owner.

The new model will be available in the Middle East with either a 211 bhp 2.0T or a 265 bhp 3.2 litre engine with S tronic transmission. Both engines feature the FSI gasoline direct-injection technology and the Audi valve-lift system for outstanding performance.

The price of the new Audi Q5 begins at BD16,500.
