If ever an automotive brand personified the men who created it, then Dodge is that brand.
The men were John and Horace Dodge. The hard-living brothers first built bicycles and piecework components for the budding auto industry and then turned to producing transmissions for Olds Motor Works and engines for Henry Ford's young company.
By 1914 they founded their own company - Dodge Brothers - and before long, their cars and trucks earned a reputation for ruggedness and dependability.
That get-it-done spirit continues in today's Dodge vehicles and the enlarged Dodge range available in the Middle East today includes some of the most exciting cars and sport-utility vehicles in the market.
"The Avenger, Caliber, Caliber SRT4, Challenger, Charger, Durango and Nitro have brought new levels of driving excitement to the region and have proved to be a massive hit with drivers who are looking for vehicles that really stand out from the crowd," said Trent Barcroft, director of operations, Chrysler Middle East and Levant.
The Dodge Avenger, Caliber, Durango and Nitro carry through the swagger and street-smarts that epitomise Dodge styling and the latest Durango offers a wide selection of added value features.
Dodge's Middle East sales have grown dramatically as the range has expanded, and the brand now spearheads the Chrysler Group's market share expansion in the region.
Now in its second generation, the legendary 5.7 litre HEMI V8 engine which powers the Challenger, Charger and Durango has once again earned a place on Ward's distinguished '2009 10 Best Engines' list for the sixth time in seven years.
"The HEMI earns the honour not on pure emotion or brute force but with advanced new technology such as variable valve timing (VVT), which allows cruising in four-cylinder mode about 40 per cent of the time, twice as much as the previous-generation Multi-Displacement System (MDS) cylinder-deactivation system," said Tom Murphy - executive director of Ward's AutoWorld magazine.
"We are honoured to have our iconic HEMI engine recognised by Ward's for a sixth time," said Bob Lee, vice president - Powertrain Product Engineering Team, Chrysler LLC. "HEMI is synonymous with performance and now, thanks to VVT, expanded four-cylinder mode in our MDS system and a host of other technologies, Chrysler's new 5.7 litre HEMI V8 engine delivers more fuel efficiency and refinement, along with even more power."
And numerous other hardware upgrades have been implemented to build on the quality, reliability and durability reputation of the HEMI engine.
