wednesday (Jun 24) Documentary - Culture shocks: Initiation Rituals on NGA at 9.30pm

Delve into the rituals that mark the passage from one phase of life to another - where pain is the price of acceptance and failure means a loss of pride and sometimes even a loss of life. In Australia, members of an urban subculture are pierced through their skin with giant stainless steel fishing hooks and hang suspended from the ceiling. Then, deep in the Amazon jungle of Brazil, teenage boys thrust their hands inside specially woven gloves filled with hundreds of giant stinging bullet ants, 19 times.

George Reeves (Ben Affleck) was a struggling actor when he was cast as comic-book hero Superman in a 1951 movie. A year later, the producers turned Superman into a TV series with Reeves returning as the Man of Steel. The show became a major hit and turned Reeves into a star. Eight years later, though, Reeves was found dead from a gunshot wound. Although police declared the actor's death a suicide, his mother refused to believe her son took his own life. To uncover the truth, she hires Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), a private detective.

SATURDAY (Jun 27)

Film - Matchstick Men on Fox Movies at 11pm

Ridley Scott directs this crime comedy, based on the novel of the same name by Eric Garcia. Neurotic con man Roy (Nicolas Cage) suffers from several emotional problems, including obsessive-compulsive disorder. He and his partner Frank (Sam Rockwell) swindle people out of money by posing as money collectors who promise things like tax refunds, package vacations and other fabulous prizes. Frank wants to pull a really big job, but Roy is too consumed with fear and panic attacks to join him. When Roy finds himself in desperate need of more pills, he is forced to see psychotherapist Dr Klein. Roy ends up in the discovery of a child whom he has never met.

Film - Amos & Andrew on Star Movies at 8.30pm

When Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Andrew (Samuel L Jackson) - who happens to be black - is seen entering a resort mansion by a bigoted police chief (Dabney Coleman), the chief mistakenly assumes he is breaking in. Fearing Andrew has hostages, the chief calls out the cavalry. But the playwright actually owns the home and by the time the chief realises his mistake, it's too late. The chief compounds matters by ordering a jailbird car thief, Amos (Nicoclas Cage), to pretend to be the 'real' menace in return for freedom. But Amos gets more than he bargained for.

It is the mystery of dŽjˆ vu - that flash of memory when you meet someone new you feel you've known all your life, or recognise a place even though you've never been there before - that guides government agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) through an investigation and into a shattering crime. After a New Orleans ferry is bombed, Carlin is called in to recover evidence. As he delves deeper, he learns that the government has created a time machine that may prevent the bombing from happening. Carlin embarks on a mind-bending race to save hundreds of innocent people.
