Kings of Comedy move over there are some new kids on the block.
The Funniest Person in Bahrain improvised comedy competition, organised by Khalifa Shaheen Digital Images (KSDi) and the Aqua Feugo lounge in Manama, is currently underway and getting lots of laughs.
The first contest took place at Auqua Feugo last Wednesday and the next event is being held tonight at 9pm.
The competition is an extension of the Screen Acting Classes taught by Rick Beeman at KSDi and is planned to run over four months.
Mr Beeman said: "I am really pleased with the performers as they are taking many risks and are very entertaining and that is what they should do, have fun and entertain. This competition is pretty unique and the first of its kind in the kingdom.
"There will be a break for Ramadan after tonight's performance and we will be back to thrill and excite after the Holy Month is up.
"The winner of the week will get a free ticket to Dubai and a stay at a hotel.
"The grand prize hasn't been decided yet but whoever gets the most wins will be awarded the title of Funniest Person in Bahrain.
"There are three judges that also feed off the audience. They are Omar Shaheen, owner of Fact magazine, Fred Governo publishing director of Al Hilal Group and Natasha Saraf graphic designer for KSDi."
Some of the contestants are given funny situations and scenarios to improvise on the spot while others are given props and role playing games.
The last contest was a huge success that resulted in a good turnout and many tears of laughter from the audience.
Diana Cunningham, 20, from Manama, said: "The beginning was a bit dull but as we got to the middle and the end it really picked up! Improvisation is difficult especially when dealing with an avalanche of faces. I will definitely be back for the next event."
Winner of last week's competition was Yousif Taha, 24, an advertising executive from Manama.
