More than 20 sailors from six different commands at Naval Support Activity, Bahrain (NSA) put their muscles to good use to help prepare the Sacred Heart School's new wing at the Isa Town campus for when students return in September.
And that's not all, when the students come back in September, the naval personnel will be joining them in the classroom as teacher's aids helping with music classes and calisthenics.
For their weekend's work, 22 Chief, Senior Chief and Master Chief Petty Officers from NSA, and its tenant commands, put their backs into the task washing buildings and moving furniture to help prepare for the opening of the newly constructed wing which has been financed with ongoing fundraising efforts and will house additional classrooms.
"This is the kind of thing that builds camaraderie," said Master-at-Arms Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel Brindley, senior enlisted advisor for Naval Security Force. "Coming together with people we don't usually see gives us the opportunity to get to know each other while doing good things."
The COMREL is the first of several the US Navy has planned to support the school, including recurring projects in the autumn.
"The people from the Navy have been asking us if they could help our school for a few years," said Sister Grace, the school's vice principal. "We had always declined but we are glad they asked again because we really need the help."
The U.S. Navy actively seeks new opportunities to volunteer in the Kingdom of Bahrain and has 13 commands actively participating in COMREL efforts.
"I was glad I had the chance to jump in on this with the other Chiefs," said Utilitiesman Senior Chief Steven Harvey.
"The word was out that they needed a hand with this, and that's what Seabees do."
The Sacred Heart School was established in 1953 and is affiliated with Bahrain's Sacred Heart Church.
