Dr Armerding will be stepping out to compete in the 13th AMH Island Golf Classic - the AMH's major fundraiser aimed at upgrading medical equipment to keep up with the latest technology and service without affecting the patient costs.
The hospital displays an Island Classic 'Wall of Honour' to recognise sponsors who, from 1997 to 2001, raised BD1.3 million for the construction and the establishment of its new six-storey building.
The theme chosen to symbolise it is a famous Arab proverb 'A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step' and reflects how one man, Samuel Zwemer, ignited the vision of a health service for Bahrain with the single step of opening a medical dispensary in the Old Souk in 1893. One man's dream of providing modern medical care in the Arabian Gulf has produced today's American Mission Hospital.
Two hundred golfers, comprising of 50 teams, will be competing in this year's event, which starts on November 5 and will held under the patronage of King Hamad at his private golf course in Saffriya .
Dr Armerding said: "On behalf of the organising committee, I look forward to welcoming all the golfers and guests as we enjoy another three days of fun and excitement."
