Wednesday (Dec 16) Film - Up Close and Personal on Star Movies at 8.30pm.

Tally Atwater (Michelle Pfeiffer) is one of the most trusted figures, a familiar and comforting face to the millions of TV viewers who invite her into their homes every day. But she didn't start out that way. A one-time waitress and casino craps dealer, she pursued a dream with nothing but ambition, raw talent and a homemade demo tape. She goes from a small-town weathergirl to prime-time network anchor with the help of Warren Justice (Robert Redford), a brilliant, older newsman who becomes her mentor and lover.

When Miami dentist Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr) finds out that he's been named in a will, he travels to Alaska to claim his inheritance. However, his dreams turn to mush: he discovers he's been left a team of sled dogs. Not only do the dogs not warm up to him, but a crusty old mountain man named Thunder Jack feels as though the dogs rightfully belong to him. When Jack urges him to hotfoot it back to warmer climates, Ted becomes determined to learn to mush, no matter what it takes.

After a New Orleans ferry is bombed, Carlin is called in to recover evidence. As he delves deeper, he learns that the government has created a time machine that may prevent the bombing from happening. Trying to piece together the puzzle, Carlin embarks on a mind-bending race to save hundreds of innocent people.

While investigating an experimental surgery to restore his sight, Danny falls for Lisa (Angali Jay), a receptionist at the eye clinic. But his risky operation is nothing compared to the cultural obstacles the young lovers face. Lisa's strict Indian parents refuse to accept the blind guy from the crazy Italian family. However, when Danny's life is in jeopardy, Lisa must make the choice between duty and tradition or love and happiness.

Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) was born into wealth and groomed at the most elite schools. She travels to dangerous and mysterious locales around the globe in search of rare, lost crypts and long-forgotten empires. But now she must face her greatest challenge yet: to find two halves of an ancient artifact buried in space and time.
