DOCTORS in Bahrain could soon be making house calls under a revolutionary partnership between private and government health services, writes REBECCA TORR.
The future is in taking medical care into people's homes, says new American Mission Hospital chief medical officer and chief executive officer Dr George Cheriyan.
He envisages care in the home for outpatients who cannot easily get to hospital, such as the chronically ill or the elderly.
Dr Cheriyan also predicts much stronger partnership between private and government health service providers.
But, he says, it will take greater financial support from companies, organisations and wealthy contributors to give the nation the best health services possible.
'The future of healthcare is the delivery of healthcare in the home.
'This will help people in villages who can't make it to hospital.
'This is community healthcare and it will also benefit those who have chronic diseases, such as diabetes, thalassaemia, hypertension and obesity.
'The AMH had major expansion plans and would also be seeking partnerships with other medical bodies and government organisations, to provide healthcare well into the future.'
