Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is gearing up to host the third round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship this week, starting tonight with the testing.
The event is organised and run by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club, which functions under the umbrella of the Bahrain Motor Federation, in collaboration with the BIC.
The tests will begin at 7pm and will go on until 11pm tonight.
Scores of drivers from Bahrain and the neighbouring Gulf states are expected to battle it out for pride and racing supremacy in the different cars and motorbikes categories of the championship.
Action along the circuit's recently reconfigured drag strip will continue tomorrow with the qualifying sessions from 7pm onwards. The races are scheduled for Friday at 4pm.
Tickets for the event are priced at BD3.
Hospitality suites are also available for the round, complete with catering and luxury seating. For both qualifying and race day, the price per person is BD25; for each day it is BD15, while children aged 3-15 get in for half-price.
During an intense second round held in the last week of November, there was plenty of drama in the 10 competition categories for cars and three for bikes.
In the Street FWD category, Mohammed Saleh came first, Sayed Ahmed Hashim was the winner in the Street RWD, Kuwaiti STS Team driver Ahmed Al Zaabi surprised the field in the Street V8, Ali Moosa claimed first place in the Super Street FWD, Youssef Abdulla prevailed in the Super Street RWD, the Super Street V8 was won by Mohammed Jassim Al Shihabi, Muslim Qallaf from Saudi Arabia took first place in a '72 Camaro in the Competition 7.5 class, in the Outlaw FWD, Ibrahim bin Hasher of the UAE was the winner, Saad Almaran triumphed over the field in the Outlaw RWD and Saad Almaran claimed his second win by taking the Pro Mod category.
Among the bikers, the Street Bike class was won by Bader Bin Eidan, Mishari Al Turki of Saudi Arabia took the Super Street Bike category, while Mohammed bu Rashid of Kuwait won the Pro Bike category.
