BahRAIN! Well, what can I say? Except that the BBC weather forecast was exactly spot on!
Nice all week with showers on Friday. Well, showers we can deal with but, thunder, lightning ... hailstones! Torrential downpours and subsequent mud baths are not conducive to a dressage show.
Twin Palms organisers hung on and on, but after the final downpour of the morning and the three inches of mud it produced it was deemed simply too wet. So the show was cancelled for the morning.
It was such a shame as, on the day, despite the initial downpours there were those ready and waiting to brave the weather, and compete.
However, it is not all bad news as the show has now been rescheduled for January 8, 2010. That gives everyone some additional practice time, and it allows all those that were away for the Christmas festivities to compete.
So this can be one of your first diary dates for 2010. Twin Palms have put their order into the BBC to ensure that it will be a beautiful day in keeping with the more traditional Bahrain weather.
The schedule for the day will remain the same, with the deadline for submitting entries now being January 5.
Twin Palms Riding Centre, will also hold its second dressage event the following week, which will include tests for the Novice, Elementary and Medium classes. All schedule information for the show is on the Twin Palms website www.twinpalmsridingcentre.com
