The calendar is thinning and the days to a new year, a new beginning, are dwindling away. As we approach this period of transition, we encounter a queer experience, mingled with apprehension, anxiety and anticipation.
We are faced with the prospect of leaving behind our memories and mishaps of 2009 and start afresh in 2010. Washing away all the moments of yesteryears and breaking away from the past is a tough task; to some it may seem an upheaval, to others a relief.
The year 2009 has seen many a twist and turn with a lot of us getting bruised on the bumps along the way. It was a year fraught with economic crisis and ruthless wars. It was a year of appalling tragedies and heart-rending deaths; the world was dumbfounded at the loss of legends.
But it was also a year that marked awesome feats and development. It ushered in an era of greater awareness. People from all walks of life joined hands to save the environment and wildlife. President Barack Obama was sworn in lifting up the hopes of many. More importantly, Bahrain has seen booming progress and has soared developmentally in pirouettes.
The year 2009 has had its ups and downs and we have gone through it, clinging onto the rollercoaster ride. Now, the year sidles to an end.
Walking away from one year and plunging afresh into a new one is indeed an intrepid and gutsy task; creating new ripples and making the first impressive propitious splash.
One must learn to shed away the delicacies of the past year and gear up for the brand new unspotted calendar. Twelve, untouched months stretch before us, ready to be immortalised in the pages of history; it is up to us to make the most of our potential.
Whether 2009 has been high-spirited or horrendous for you, you should remember to keep your chin up, dust yourself down and take life in your stride. Set goals and conquer them. Set standards and accomplish them.
Set morals and abide by them. Set the bar for your high jump and soar to new heights and set world records. For 2010 is a new year filled with possibilities and shining promises; 2009 is gone and forgotten, 2010 is here, welcome it with open arms. It's a start to a new decade; a new beginning to prove yourself to the world!
Embrace it with an ecstatic smile and let it be the year that you will never want to forget.
