DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, one of Bahrain's largest mixed-use master-planned developments, organised a leadership conversation with the co-operation of Urban Land Institute (ULI), an international non-profit organisation specialised in urban development and land use disciplines.
It was held under the patronage of Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, head of trustees of Shaikh Ibrahim Centre, at the centre's premises in Muharraq.
The event was headed by ULI senior vice-president Mickael Horst and was divided into four main topics: Leadership in the Responsible Use of Land, Leadership in Challenging Economic Times, Leadership in Your Community, and the MENA City in 2050 Initiative.
Senior officials from the public and private sector discussed land use trends and international best practices applied in this field, and explored collaboration avenues amongst developers and policy-makers to create innovative and practical solutions to overcome current and potential challenges.
Mr Horst said: "We are very pleased to co-operate with Diyar Al Muharraq, which has become a leading promoter of environmental awareness and sustainable development in recognition of the profound impact these issues have on society in general.
"Our ultimate aim here was to open up new channels of constructive communication in order for us to build a better future for all."
The session is a part of a larger initiative launched by Diyar Al Muharraq in collaboration with the ULI to sponsor non-profit activities, school and educational programmes for the development of all segments of society, including students, businessmen, and decision makers in the kingdom and abroad.
In addition, Diyar Al Muharraq agreed to financially support the distribution of all ULI's printed materials to a number of leading educational institutes universities, as well as supporting the institute's various educational and awareness activities aimed at both the private and public sectors.
With 30,000 planned housing for over 120,000 people, Diyar Al Muharraq will offer 40km of waterfront.
This will include walkways, sea-facing parks, sandy beaches and a marina with a pleasant waterfront promenade, making it one of the kingdom's most sought after destinations. It will offer a range of freehold properties accessible to buyers across various income levels, and its extensive and varied indoor and outdoor leisure, commercial and retail facilities underpinned by world-class infrastructure.
