Thai and Japanese treats await visitors at the Papaya Restaurant in the Cypress Gardens, Budaiya.

Formerly known as the Chaing Saen Restaurant, it is situated amidst a range of culinary choices offering a traditional and relaxed ambience to dine and savour a selection of popular Asian dishes.

Among the favourites are green curry, pad thai, chicken satay on the Thai menu and sushi, sashimi and tempura from the Japanese menu.

Preparing the delights are Chef Chamnian Dungsungnoen and Chef Kiattipon Sangmat.

Hailing from the south of Thailand, Chef Chamnian, 33, looks after the Thai kitchen and boasts 13 years of experience, the last three in Bahrain.

Chef Kiattipon, 33, from north Thailand, moved to the island a year ago. He has 12 years experience in Japanese cuisine.

Managing the outlet for the past three years is Thai businessman and resident of Bahrain for the past 27 years, Tanakit Kiatprathum, who also owns the Pong's Thai Restaurant in Hoora. He said: "When I opened the first restaurant six years ago Bahrain's economy was booming and I felt the time was ripe to begin a business venture.

"Times are tougher nowadays but good food and service at a reasonable price will always be appreciated."

The Papaya offers a 'grand' buffet every day between 11am and 11pm where customers can choose from 30 different items of Thai cuisine costing BD7, exclusive of beverages.

The restaurant shared a recipe for a popular Thai dish with GulfWeekly readers.
