Chris Sharma, hailed as the world's best rock climber, takes on his biggest challenge yet - the unclimbed 90-metre limestone cave atop Clark Mountain in the western US. To reach the top, Chris dangles from one finger, jumps between miniscule holds and suffers 30-metre freefalls onto his rope in his attempt to piece the climb together. After months of effort, Sharma is still unable to complete the climb without falling. The oppressive summer heat moves in and he must retreat to Spain to continue training.

In 1899 France, a young poet named Christian (Ewan McGregor) defies his bourgeois father, leaves his family home and moves to the seedy, bohemian underworld of Montmartre, Paris. He is taken in by Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo) and his entourage, and is drafted to write a nightclub spectacular. Through his relationship with Toulouse, Christian meets Satine (Nicole Kidman), the most beautiful courtesan in Paris and star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub. Besotted by her beauty, he and Satine enter into a passionate - but ultimately doomed - love affair.

After picking up a ringing phone on a busy street, a stranger on the other end (Keifer Sutherland) informs him that if he hangs up, he will be shot. When another man tries to make his way into the booth, he's shot inches from Stu, calling the attention of the police. As Stu struggles to find a way to convince the police of what's happening without leaving the booth, the caller forces Stu to face his infidelities and his unethical, self-serving existence.
