One of Bahrain's favourite 4x4's, the Toyota Land Cruiser, is launching a new model to coincide with the vehicle's 60th anniversary celebrations.

Boasting a 5.7 litre engine mated with 6-speed automatic transmission the birthday boy produces a maximum power of 362 horsepower and 530 Newton-meter of torque and will be available from Ebrahim K. Kanoo.

Toyota's '60th Anniversary Model' will be offered with the choice of 4.0L, 4.7L and 5.7L gasoline engines. New features will include a special exterior blue mica metallic look, silver-coloured roof rail, power adjustable D-seat, rear-coloured mudguard and exclusive spare tyre cover among others.

Sadayoshi Koyari, chief engineer of Land Cruiser at Toyota Motor Corporation said: "The Land Cruiser had witnessed various model changes since it was first launched in 1951 but the fundamental concept of providing comfort, luxury, durability and superior off-road performance has remained unchanged and moreover enhanced.

"The Land Cruiser has a long and illustrious history and every generation has preserved and enhanced our quality, durability and reliability DNA.

"Our loyal customers have always appreciated the reliability and pleasurable driving experience of the Land Cruiser in the toughest of driving conditions. The Land Cruiser has fostered a resolute relationship with customers across the world and especially in the Middle East. Testimony to this fact is that currently over 50 per cent of Land Cruisers sold worldwide are in the Middle East alone."

The Land Cruiser was first launched in 1951 and within a year it became the first Toyota passenger vehicle to be exported from Japan. The Land Cruiser has a unique line-up consisting of the three separate series of a station wagon, a heavy-duty model for industrial use, and a light-duty Land Cruiser Prado, all being sold simultaneously.

Owing to its durability and reliability, there are more Land Cruisers on the roads and off-road than any other SUV in the world.

Approximately six million Land Cruisers have been sold worldwide with more than two million units sold in the Middle East since the first model was introduced in 1955 in Kuwait.

Prices start from BD22,000.
