APPROXIMATELY five days after her 18th birthday, Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana, threw a bash at her LA residence - an extended commemoration.

Dressed in an entirely age inappropriate bikini top and leather pants, she was seen undertaking a vast number of shocking 'wild-child' antics in the presence of her parents.

Footage of her party has been leaked on the internet, showing Miley taking a few hits off a bong allegedly filled with Saliva, a psychoactive herb, legal in California.

This isn't the only time that the former child star has crossed the line, in my opinion. Miley has boasted of several tattoos, has been caught on camera dirty dancing, making provocative music videos and turning to shock antics in her concerts.

What's truly unbelievable, in my opinion, is that her parents appear to be comfortable with her behaviour.

Miley's father - country singer Billy Ray Cyrus - insisted: "I give my kids the freedom to make the art they wanna make."

If dirty dancing and explicit PDA are artistic ... then I love being uncreative.

From Lindsay Lohan to Britney Spears to even Michael Jackson - unruly child stars have lost their way in the big bad world of fame and fortune.

Who's to blame? Is it the insufficient grounding from parents or does being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age render them incapable to define right from wrong? What about the generation that are influenced by such cringe-worthy antics?

I don't want our generation to be remembered as The Pot-Smokers!

However, the 'tweenage' population adores Miley and the steady selling Hannah Montana merchandise is proof. While Miley is trying to move on to a more adult audience, her fans are firmly clinging on to her.

A useful analogy of a child star trying to abandon their image is a game of snakes and ladders.

Sorry, you were caught drunk while driving - go down the snake and lose a lot of respect. Or, you are photographed with the latest heart-throb - go up the ladder of tweenage idolism.

Will Miley go down the snake into the rehab road, or get her act together and go up the ladder to achieve her true potential?

Only time will tell in celebrity snakes and ladders.
