The Bahrain Hockey Association has done it again, this time introducing junior hockey to the kingdom for the first time in its history.

Over 70 children turned out at St Christopher's Junior School grounds in Saar to watch six school teams do battle in two age-group categories.

Both the U-11 and U-15 age groups were won by St Christopher's with teams that secured a 100 per cent record and a clean sheet.

In a bruising opening encounter with the British School the St Christopher's U-11's were indebted to a long-range effort from George Axtell to secure a win.

George went on to notch six goals including a hat-trick in the final before handing over the scoring duties to Ahmed and Prabhav to complete a 5-0 rout. George's goal-scoring resulted in him being named the 'Most Valuable Player'.

Matching his goal scoring heroics in the senior category was Arjan Hanson-Singh, also of St Christopher's School. Hanson-Singh worked hard up and down the pitch to be ever-present in defence with solid tackles thwarting numerous British School attacks, while also supporting the forward line.

Aaron Beaty completed the scoring for the champions. In the final, the British School were left ruing an umpiring decision that they felt should have resulted in a penalty that, if successfully converted, would have allowed them to draw level.

The association was able to provide all participants with a new stick each thanks to generous sponsorship from Mathias Tourism and Food Services Trading, along with additional equipment for the schools.
