THE Marvel universe is set to expand in Bahrain next week, with the release of Thor, which made its world-premiere in Sydney Australia on Sunday.
The Sydney premiere was an important moment for the movie's star, Australian Chris Hemsworth, as it marked both his homecoming and his first leading role.
Director Kenneth Branagh and other members of the crew also attended the event, but other key cast members were mysteriously absent.
Pegged as one of this summer's biggest blockbusters the film, staring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins, has both mythical and earthly aspects as it focuses on a superhero surviving in and out of our realm.
At the centre of the story is Thor, an arrogant but skilled warrior from a realm known as Asgard, whose reckless actions incite a war. As a result he is cast down to Earth and forced to live among mortals as punishment.
It has been claimed by insiders that executives at Marvel Studios are gambling heavily on the success of Thor and the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger to set up next summer's ensemble hero movie, The Avengers.
