More than 60 motor sport enthusiasts showcased their drifting skills at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) on Friday as part of the track’s action-packed Ramadan events.
The BIC organised four rounds of ‘Drifting and Burn Out’ contests to be held during the Holy Month aiming to attract Bahrain’s youngsters, in particular all amateur motor racing enthusiasts, to compete in a safe and controlled environment.
In the first round, Salman Mahmood Abdulla secured the win with a fantastic performance followed by Fahad Abdulla Ali, with Abdul Jalil Habib Fardan in third place.
Hundreds of motoring fans had come out to cheer on the drifters as they put on an exciting show of adrenaline-pumping car control and tricks. In the second round, Fahad Abdulla took first place while Abdul Jalil came in second and Ebrahim Khalil Ebrahim placed third.
Abdul Jalil, 20, a mechanic at a private garage, had never competed before and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. He said: “In the first round I came in third driving a Nissan 40L. This was despite my motor failing and having an accident during the event. I was very happy with a third place win. I thought that wasn’t too bad for a first timer.
“I am definitely going to take part in the third event and any others that come up in the future. I am already working on improving certain features in my car.”
The third set will be held this Friday and will once again take place in the circuit’s car park, numbered five and six, adjacent to the Main Grandstand. The final series is scheduled for August 26.
The event is free for all to enjoy and BD5 for VIP members who wish to get an even closer look at the action. For any further information contact the BIC on 17450000 or visit www.bahraingp.com
