THIS weekend will see, yet again, Twin Palms Riding Centre expand its equestrian talents to running, with a team ready to take to the streets on Friday to participate in the Bahrain Marathon Relay.
Last year’s logo ‘Its easier on a horse’ was never more true. However, this year’s team are ready and waiting for that starting pistol. Consequently the Show Jumping and Dressage Event scheduled for Friday has now been moved to Saturday, starting in the afternoon, to allow – hopefully – the runners to recuperate and get their riding gear on for the start of the show at 1pm.
Show jumping will initiate the day’s classes, with a simple Clear Round Class, open to everyone, followed by another Clear Round Class. However, winners in this class are decided on a timed jump-off.
To close the event will be an Accumulator Class with a Joker – this class has each of the fences worth usually its number in points, e.g. fence 1 is one point, fence 2, two points and so on until the final fence which is a choice of a normal fence worth nine points or a Joker fence worth double points. The rider makes a decision which one to jump, however, the catch is that if they knock the final fence it is a total of 18 points that are deducted from their score, and all of this against the clock!
The Dressage classes will commence at 3pm, with the popular Working Equitation Classes. These will be followed by Preliminary A, and Preliminary B classes, moving on up to Novice and Elementary.
There will be a Best Turned Out class in which everyone is automatically entered.
This is a league event, and the points for Show Jumping, Dressage and Best Turned Out will be accumulated and the leaders will be announced next week.
