A ‘direct or’s cut’ of a fan-made version of Star Wars: A New Hope has passed one million hits on YouTube in just a week.
The Star Wars Uncut project brings together hundreds of short 15-second clips of scenes from the 1977 movie, created by internet users.
It launched in 2009 with a mission to ‘crowd source’ fan-made scenes from the film. It has heavily featured in the media and documentaries, as well as being awarded a Primetime Emmy for ‘Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media’ in 2010.
All the crowd-sourced clips have been made available previously, but this is the first time that they have been edited together into a film.
Casy Pugh, who started the project, said that contributors were allowed to recreate scenes in any way they wanted.
He said that their creativity was ‘unimaginable’, including the 400-plus scenes featuring animation, costumes, special effects and live action.
“Finally, the crowd-sourced project has been stitched together and put online for your streaming pleasure,” said Pugh.
