ST Christopher’s Seniors, Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League’s defending champions, played the skillful Woolwich Arsenal girls in an exciting and close encounter at Batelco’s sporting grounds in Hamala.
According to Woolwich captain, Rama Salem, both sides played well in the ‘tough encounter’ that ended with one goal apiece.
She said: ìI thought my side did very well as we showed determination throughout and especially did not give up after the first goal was conceded.
"I also thought that we did exceptionally well defensively by cutting off St Christopher’s counter-attacks. We struggled at first to stand our ground but we kept positive and managed to maintain our formation well. It was a great match and very close."
Forward Reema Al- Qassab bagged Arsenal’s goal and forward Rebecca ‘Becks’ Shorrock notched St Christopher’s strike.
St Christopher’s captain Jen Gilbert said: "It really was a tough game but it was played in the right spirit. They proved to be a tough challenge for us because just as we thought we had won the game they came back with a well-deserved, late equaliser. It was a great game to be honest."
In the other fixtures on the night Dial Square drew 6-6 with Royal Arsenal, Eastern Flames faced another thrashing at the hands ofthe U16 Bahrain National team 5-0 and Joga Bonito claimed the high-scoring glory by tearing apart newcomers RCSI 7-0.
On Monday evening Joga Bonito took on Dial Square, Royal Arsenal played the U16 Bahrain national team, St Christopher’s went up against RCSI and Eastern Flames took on Woolwich Arsenal.
