WHEN I arrived at Arad Fort, an open-air venue, it was bitterly cold so I was counting on Julio Iglesias to bring some Latin heat to warm me up.
However, if I was cold wearing my long winter coat, I can only imagine how cold his team of scantly-clad back-up dancers and singers were.
Julio’s booming voice filled the venue with soulful sounds in a variety of languages, although the star confessed, the only word he knows in Arabic is ‘Habibi’, which delighted the crowd no end.
In between songs he talked to the audience, sharing not only his talent for singing but also his gift of the gab and obvious sense of humour.
However, the highlight of the evening was when he sang All the girls I’ve loved before, which if reports are true, is a lot.
The performance was powerful and well delivered and had the crowd singing along during the chorus.
The event was also a little emotional as he paid tribute to one of his favourite Italian singers, belting out a glistening rendition of a song I couldn’t pronounce if you paid me ... but i assure you it was beautiful.
The cheeky Latin lothario also managed to snag a kiss from a Brazilian back-up singer which left the crowd in hysterics ... and I’m sure his wife too if she were there.
All in all it was a fun-filled night. My only complaint, besides the cold weather, was that venue offered no refreshments or, most surprisingly, any Julio merchandise for sale.
However, the one thought I can take away from the experience is that this Spanish crooner can still put on a show!
