Up to 1,000 junior rugby players from a host of clubs from across the Gulf region will descend on the Bahrain Rugby Club on Friday for the inaugural HSBC Rugby Festival Bahrain.
The new event will mark the third of four legs of the HSBC Youth Rugby Series, a series of HSBC-sponsored grassroots rugby festivals to take place across the GCC.
Teams from the Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 age categories participating in Bahrain will automatically be eligible to earn points towards a new end of season grand prize put up by HSBC – which sees the top teams win a VIP training session with an HSBC Rugby Ambassador, plus a new set of rugby kit for the squad.
Patrick Gallagher, CEO of HSBC Bahrain, said: ìWe are proud to be the title sponsor of the first and only youth rugby festival in Bahrain which promises to see many young people from across the GCC competing across many age groups for the most prestigious prize in the Middle East.
"HSBC, with the support of the Bahrain Rugby Football Club, is delighted to be able to support such a thrilling event that we hope will encourage lots of young people to take up the game."
The HSBC Skills Zone – an interactive coaching and rugby games area – made a successful debut at the HSBC Community Rugby Day in Bahrain in October last year and at the 2011 Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival. It provides fun for coaches and players alike in developing speed, agility, tackling and passing skills, set against the clock.
