Bahrain leads the charge at Gulf Film Festival 2012

A staggering 12 Bahraini movies will be screened at the fifth Gulf Film Festival (GFF), being held until April 16 at Dubai Festival City.
In all, 11 films from Bahrain are making their world premiere at GFF 2012, highlighting the festival’s appeal as the first-choice for the region’s filmmakers to present their works.
Held under the patronage of Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), GFF 2012 will screen its entire roster of 155 films from 40 countries.
The newest entries from Bahrain are Lamentation directed by Jamal Al Ghailan, screening in the Lights segment; Eclipse by Abdulla Alsaadawi and Ahmed Alfardan; Like by Ahmed Alfardan; Voices by Hussain Al Riffaei – all of them competing in the Official Gulf Short competition; and Patience Salt by Mohammed Ebrahim Mohammed, competing in the Official Gulf Student Shorts.
Other entries from Bahrain include the world premieres of Movement directed by Aisha Almuqla and Noora Kamal; Be a Man by Osama Al Saif; Gouli Ya Helou by Mohamed Janahi; Sokoon by Ammar Abdulla Al Kooheji; 301 by Mahmood Alshaikh; and the UAE-Bahrain co-production This is London by Mohammed Rashed Bu Ali and the Middle East premiere of Mohammed Jassim’s The Last Drop of Oil.
The line-up, which is presented free to the public, includes 82 world premieres, 12 international premieres, 27 Middle East premieres, 11 GCC premieres and four UAE premieres.
