Irreverent comedian Will Ferrell has
announced plans for a second instalment of his 2004 hit comedy, Anchorman: The
Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Ferrell appeared on talk show Conan, in
character, to break the news to an excited audience. He wore the famous
burgundy suit and striped tie.
He said: “I want to announce this to
everyone here in the Americas, to my friends in Spain, Turkey and the UK,
including England ... as of 9am Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself,
Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for Anchorman. It
is official; there will be a sequel.”
In 2010, director and co-writer of the
film, Adam McKay, told MTV news that he expected that most of the first movie’s
cast to come along for the sequel, which includes Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and
Christina Applegate.
Ferrell and McKay will again co-write the
sequel and McKay will direct again. Production is expected to begin at the end
of this year with a release in 2013.
