Scaling new heights for a painless experience

What doesn’t gill (kill) you makes you stronger ... at least that was what I was hoping when I went to LPOD to test the new Fish Doctor Spa.

As I arrived, I was met by Cristina who took me to the newest attraction.

As I peered into the tank the Garra Rufa were swimming around and my first impression was … they look hungry.

I washed my feet, rolled up my trousers and climbed on to the bench above the container which was practically filled with fish.

I didn’t climb to the top of the food chain to be something else’s dinner but after being assured these little nibblers don’t actually bite and putting aside any trepidations over the assignment, I dipped a toe in the water.

They swarmed to it like honey bees to a hive and after submerging both feet there was a frenzy of activity.

I felt them everywhere, between my toes, under my heel, in fact, I couldn’t see my feet through the swarm.

It’s a little-known fact that I have ticklish feet and tend to scream like a girl whenever anything comes into contact with them – that’s why I never wear sandals.

I would like to point out that it was entirely painless but I couldn’t handle the experience for a full 15 minutes, I would have passed out from all the laughing.

Shortly after I dried off I was put to shame by a young girl who had seen me take the plunge with the Fish Doctor treatment and was eager to try it herself. She went in with both feet, squirmed half as much as I did and didn’t yelp once.

I was told the amount of tickling depends on the number of fish, the more fish, the more it tickles ... next time I think I’ll ask for less fish.

This procedure is sure to scale new heights for some.
