The Royal Golf Club’s team of PGA
professionals continued their winning streak in this year’s Professionals’
Challenge with a great 11 under par score of 61.
The team, consisting of Chris Kelby, Tim
Backhouse, John Howells and Mark Underwood got off to a slow start after only
birdying four out of the first eight holes. Nevertheless they made up for it on
the final 10 holes with seven birdies.
The annual Texas Scramble tournament
attracted a field of nearly 100 players and saw competitors trying to better
the pros’ team score. Out of the 23 teams that took part in the challenge, the
pro’s managed to beat 17 teams and only lost out to five.
The winning amateur team consisted of
husband and wife Rory and Karen Black, Ray Bruhn and Peter O’Brien who achieved
a team net score of 58.9.
“We were sweating out there for a while,”
said Kelby, the Royal Golf Club’s head professional. “Tim hit some great shots
and Mark hit some super iron shots on the back nine.”
