THE WHISPERER likes to stick his oar in, especially if there’s the chance to highlight the antics of barmy expats living in Bahrain.

Readers of this column can get fit and raise money for prostate cancer awareness, treatment and support through the Bahrain Cancer Society with a spot of rowing.

But forget about a river, as there’s very few to be found in the desert, head for the Bahrain Rugby Club instead.

A rowing machine race series will be staged at the Janabiyah venue after the summer holidays and those interested are urged to start training.

Look out for this event during September to November. The format will be men: 20-45 and over 45 – 1,000m, women 20-45 and over 45 – 500m and U12, U14, U16 and U18 – 500m too.

With heats of three, the fastest six go into the semi-finals. The winners of each semi, plus the fastest loser, will make it into the grand finale. Contact Peter on 39478389 for details.
