I loved the posters produced by children in Year 6 at St Christopher’s School helping to publicise the BSPCA’s move to Askar, featured in last week’s GulfWeekly. I hope all goes well and the support the charity has received over the years continues to grow, although I am concerned that it is such a long way from the compounds so many of its supporters live in. Will people still bother helping animals in need knowing they have miles to drive to the animal welfare centre that was once on their doorstep? It’s not so much the distance that is the issue, more the time it takes to drive anywhere in Bahrain nowadays. Alison, Saar.
Due to further delays in the electricity connection being made, we are going to delay our move to the new BSPCA animal welfare centre in Askar from August 6 to late August – please check out the local press, our website and Facebook page for an updated move date.
As a result, we are still accepting animals at our old shelter in Shakoora, near Saar, until further notice. Joyce Hughes, Fundraising co-ordinator, BSPCA.
Congratulations on your Make a Difference this Ramadan community campaign.
It’s good to see an English-language newspaper enjoyed by many non-Muslim expats, as well as locals, support a worthy Bahraini charity at a special time when giving is an expression of our faith.
GulfWeekly truly is a community newspaper. Mohammed A.S., Riffa.
