WITH Christmas firmly in the rear view mirror it’s easy to reflect on the presents we received, or didn’t for that matter!
I’m a firm believer in the old adage ‘it’s the thought that counts’, but I was pretty jealous that my three-year-old nephew got an iPad and the highlight of my Christmas was a new bathmat for my apartment.
However, telecom company Viva gave me the new iPad 4 to review and it’s safe to say it trumps my nephew’s (now outdated) iPad 3 ... evil laugh.
In all fairness, the only noticeable changes from the outgoing model are a Retina Display that makes everything look incredibly sharp, an updated A6X processor, the same 5MP camera on the rear with a 1.3MP HD sensor on the front to replace the VGA effort and it now runs on iOS6.
The storage capabilities are the same; you have three options, 16, 32 or 64GB.
Tablet devices have revolutionised the way many people live their lives. It’s challenging to get on a bus or train in London or walk around a mall in Bahrain without seeing someone working or playing on these technological wonders.
It’s great for watching movies or TV shows on the go, listening to music, checking emails, using social networking sites, surfing the web, storing photographs or running a breathtaking number of apps available for download.
The iPad 4 boasts a 9.7 inch touch-screen which can be used to access almost all the functions, however, for the uninitiated, such as myself, there is also a ‘home’ button at the bottom and a small cluster of buttons discreetly tucked away at the top of the device which include the volume key, the mute/orientation switch and the power/lock key.
Since my only real experience with an iPad before the review was playing a losing game of Angry Birds with my nephew, it took me a minute to figure out a few of the fundamentals.
Aside from that, the device was simple and fun to use. Once I got an Apple ID and downloaded a few games, I idled away most of my day practising my Angry Bird skills for the next family challenge.
