TOYOTA unveiled its new flagship model, the 2013 Avalon, at a ceremony at its showroom in Sitra.

The launch by Ebrahim K. Kanoo, the marque’s distributor in Bahrain, was atteneded by executives from Toyota and Ebrahim K. Kanoo, as well as a number of distinguished guests.

The new luxury sedan represents a new era of advanced technologies, its makers say.

“The 2013 Avalon showcases Toyota car-building prowess and infuses the Avalon nameplate with new levels of excitement, dynamic capability, and refinement,” said Nobuyuki Negishi, chief representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation.

“The new Avalon is a vastly-enhanced product that utilises Toyota’s best in-market car-building resources to produce this new world-class sedan, and makes a statement. It will lead the charge for great styling, great handling performance, and the highest and best level of technologies.”

The model’s design boasts a longer-flowing roofline creating a more appealing side silhouette and its exterior lighting compliments the design lines, with the industry-first Quadrabeam headlight cluster.

The sleek cabin is driver-orientated thanks to its Optitron-type combination meter, which produces a sharp, high quality display and 3.5-inch Thin-film Transistor colour multi-information display.

Under the bonnet the new model is powered by a 3.5-litre, 6-cylinder engine that features Dual VVT-i. This robust V6 produces 274 horsepower. It also features a hydraulic automatic transmission that has been optimised for improved fuel economy and performance. The Avalon also offers three drive modes: Eco, Normal and Sport.

The steering wheel offers buttons for available voice recognition, vehicle-to-vehicle distance switch for Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Large paddle-shift toggles help enhance driver control during spirited driving.

The Avalon boasts Bluetooth compatibility, available rear-camera display, driving information such as fuel consumption and is compatible with MP3 players and USB devices.

The Avalon Limited model features a Premium HDD Navigation system that includes a seven-inch, high resolution touchscreen display. The system has DVD playback capability, split-screen capability and audio information or vehicle information can be displayed together with a map on the main navigation screen.

Avalon is available with a millimetre wave radar system, an available Blind Spot Monitor that uses radar to enhance safety and a rear view monitor. A Dynamic Radar Cruise Control feature is also available.

Safety features include Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, 10 SRS airbags and Brake Assist.
