RUMOURS abound as to who the VVIP visitor might have been who was set to visit the British School of Bahrain during F1 week. The building sparkled and members of staff were wearing their finest attire but the opening of its new foyer was called off due to concerns over protests in the area.

The hot suggestion that former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was the man has been ruled out by school sources. Lips remain tightly closed for the few who know the guest’s identity.

We may never find out, unless, of course, the visit is rescheduled for a later date and the building is named after him. My source was keen on celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

*The other unsolved mystery on the island is the number of Lidl vans that have been spotted on the kingdom’s roads. I’m not aware of the no-frills German global discount supermarket having a store in the kingdom. Perhaps they are planning to open one?
