The Royal Country Club has added a host of new activities for youngsters this month and you don’t have to be a member to sign them up. The new ‘Bricks 4 Kidz’ programme is designed to bring out a child’s creative side using Lego bricks to build models with themes such as space, construction, animals and famous buildings. Sessions for children aged six to nine take place every Sunday from 4pm to 5pm, while a more basic class for children aged three to fve is held at the same time on Tuesday afternoons. The ‘Handy Crafty’ programme, for children aged three to six, combines handicraft lessons and activities with songs and rhymes. It takes place on Monday afternoons from 4pm to 5pm.

Monkeynastix, a movement development and healthy lifestyle programme suited to children aged one to eight, teaches all the necessary basic movement skills such as ball skills, co-ordination, balance and fne motor skills. Other popular classes held at the Royal Country Club and open to all children include swimming lessons, ballet, hip hop dance and mixed martial arts. For more information, call 17750777.

‘The Painted Surface’, an exhibition of photographs by Mairi Thomas, is open at the World Beat Café until the end of May. Her showcase features a selection of work from Bahrain and is printed on archival textured papers. The exhibit is open daily, except on Friday’s, from 8.30am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm. Unwind to the tunes of Marybeth & Ruben, the newest musical duo from Argentina on piano and vocals, at Kempinski Grand Hotel Bahrain City Centre’s Mezzanine Lounge from Monday to Saturday from 8pm to midnight. Meanwhile, Faith L.H. will soothe the crowds on her saxophone, playing popular pop and jazz tunes at Boudoir lounge, Monday to Saturday from 9pm-1am.

Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) is offering photographers in the kingdom the opportunity to capture innovative snapshots of the country’s most iconic landmark in a photography competition and post them on Instagram and Facebook. Submissions for the competition are available until June 1. To enter the competition, each participant should submit one photograph and email it to Insta. bwtc@cushwake.com.bh. A committee will shortlist 20 photographs, which will be uploaded on BWTC Instagram and Facebook pages. The public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite photographs from June 3 to July 1. Entries will then be shortlisted further and the three entries receiving the highest votes will win an IPhone 5 and a MODA Mall gift voucher worth BD100. The Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research is this week launching an exhibition entitled ‘Darwish – An Altar of Poetry’ by artist Firyal Al Adhamy. The 11th Taste of India cookery contest will take place on May 24 from 10am at the India Club organised by the Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students (Amicos) Bahrain Chapter, in association with the Indian Club. The competition will include four categories of salads, vegetarian dishes, non-vegetarian dishes and desserts. A panel of judges comprising of chefs from Bahrain’s leading hotels will select the winning entries. The World Beat Fitness Centre in Janabiya is staging a Drumming Workshop Day. The Latin Percussion with Noor Al Awadi is priced at BD10 from noon to 1pm. The Egyptian Rhythms with Khalil Elias is priced at BD10 from 1.15pm to 2.15pm.

A Children’s Drumming workshop led by Lydia Martin and the Academy of Performing Arts at the British School of Bahrain (BSB) is open to kids between the ages of fve to 13 and is priced at BD5 from 3pm to 4pm.
