Ben Affleck has been hit by a tidal wave of hate from angry fans after it was announced he will play the role of Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel.
Affleck’s casting prompted one Batman aficionado to launch a petition on Change.org to have him removed from the role. The petition has so far earned more than 50,000 signatures.
Director Zack Snyder concluded months of conversations when he announced Affleck’s casting as Batman last week.
Christian Bale, who has been dubbed by critics as ‘the best Batman of all time’, turned down the chance to reprise his role despite a massive $50m offer.
Warner Bros is planning to build towards an eventual Justice League blockbuster featuring the brand’s biggest names including the Flash and Wonder Woman.
The as yet untitled sequel will be released in 2015.
