MORE than 120 golfing enthusiasts from across the globe will fly into Bahrain for a grass and sand playing extravaganza this month, writes Stan Szecowka.

The annual PGIS Golf Extravaganza 2.0 takes place over the weekend of October 24-25th at The Royal Golf Club and Awali Golf Club respectively.

Now in its seventh year, organiser Martin Allison, PGI Systems’ division manager – Fire & Gas, said: It is only the second time that the festival has covered two days. It started out as nine people playing, now at Awali on the last day it attracts more than 120 people.”

PGI Systems is a subsidiary of Pan Gulf Holdings and provides a specialist service in designing, supplying, installing and commissioning fire protection, fire and gas detection, instrumentation and security systems.

Allison, 58, who lives in Saar with his wife Jill, and is also chairman of the Dilmun Club committee, said: “Clients, suppliers, friends will be competing over the two days. On the Royal Golf Club day only invited guests play. On the following day the same guests play but members of Awali Golf Club join in the PGIS-sponsored golf day.

“People will be travelling from the US cities of San Francisco and Chicago, Perth in Australia, Norway, the UK, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to join those who live here in Bahrain.”

Companies and individuals who have sponsored or donated a prize for the golf competitions include REMTEC, Notifier, Tyco, Chemetron, RMI, ATP, NALCO, McWane, Agas, Matre Maskin, Fire Trace, Chisholm Enterprise, NHCS, Angus Simpson and Tony Kirkman. Harley Davidson will be offering the hole-in-one prizes on both days.
