Gulf Weekly Punchline Media – Chuckle Club – British Club

I’ve been to a few first birthday celebrations over the years, namely my own, my young family members and, without doubt, the best one ever … the Chuckle Club’s.

Held over three nights at the Bahrain Rugby Club, The British Club and the Intercontinental Regency, the anniversary show featured some of the best acts from the past year including Dan Nightingale, Mark Dolan, Martin Mor and Jojo Smith.

Acting as compere for the night was Dolan, a supremely funny man who has a history of hosting thanks to his smash hit comedy show Balls of Steel. He held together the proceedings with flare and confidence.

First up was Mor, a bearded behemoth of stand-up comedy, who spent just as much time with his rehearsed material as he did interacting with the crowd. He had some cracking gags about skydiving and was mesmerising to watch.

Nightingale was a pure delight thanks to his witty observations and well-timed delivery. I was in stitches after his bit about online dating and not being willing to travel more than a mile to find love.

Smith … what can I say that I haven’t said before about this woman? She’s crude, jaded, pessimistic and, most importantly, outlandishly funny. Her material isn’t shocking just for the sake of being shocking, I get the impression that behind each barb about her wasted youth is a piece of truth.

This was a fantastic show and without a doubt, the best first birthday party I’ve ever been to. Even if there wasn’t a cake, everyone still had a slice of fun!
