Options for lunch

I always thought that people are more likely to mess up breakfast because they’re usually in a hurry, but I soon realised that lunch selection can also be rushed and it can, therefore, be often unhealthy for many.

Let’s explore the various lunch traps and ways to avoid them.

If you have lunch at home, then you can avoid the ‘I don’t have time to prepare’ trap by planning in advance. You can cook the night before or even prepare a large salad in the morning to have at lunch time.

Get creative. Use leftover chicken, for example, and shred it in your salad. Or make enough soup to last for more than one meal.  You can also cook big quantities of beans and lentils in advance and freeze them in individual portions for easy access when you’re in a hurry.

When you cook at home, make sure you always use whole, not refined, grains, and feel free to experiment with grains such as brown or wild rice, millet, or even quinoa.

If you have lunch at the canteen at work, try to opt for the healthier options such as salad, baked potato, vegetables, etc.

A lot of people feel that if they only have the restaurant option for lunch then they’re stuck, but the opposite is true.

If you go to a restaurant that means you have access to a kitchen and a chef!

Choose your restaurant wisely and make sure to always add a soup or salad to your meals. Also, remember to ask about any added dairy in food so you can avoid it. Dairy products cause excess mucus and hormonal imbalances in a lot of people.

Make sure your soup has no cream and there’s no cheese in your pasta for example. Also remember to ask about any hidden sugar, such as in your juice.

A good lunchtime option at a restaurant is salad and grilled fish with vegetables.  If you have a sandwich, make it cheese-free and add lots of vegetables and salad to it.

And, last but not least, if you choose none of these options, then pack a healthy lunch from home. This could be anything from vegetable sticks with dip to chickpeas or even a large quinoa salad.

Get creative as an exciting lunch can really boost your productivity and mood.
