The American Mission Hospital (AMH) will be bringing its style of care to the growing community of Amwaj Islands by launching a new satellite medical centre next week.

The centre, located near the International School of Choueifat, will provide patients with a range of services including primary care, pediatrics, obstetrics, ENT, an adult urgent care unit. It will also have medical specialists available on a rotating basis.

There is also a wellness centre offering weight reduction and dietary consultation, ante-natal, post natal classes, and wellness and lifestyle classes.

Dr George Cheriyan, AMH’s chief medical officer and chief executive officer, is thrilled with the expansion. He said: “As always with a new project, there is much anticipation by members of staff and the community. It is exciting to open a new clinic to further and better serve the community of Bahrain as well as provide such a state-of-the-art facility in an area where it is needed.

“AMH has modelled the future provision of healthcare through meeting the needs of people close to where they live through satellite ambulatory medical and dental centres as we have in Saar.

“The Amwaj medical centre is unique in that it has been carefully designed to meet both today’s and the future healthcare needs of the people of the Amwaj community and beyond.

“The construction of the medical centre is designed around the wellness concept where patients feel relaxed and waiting times are kept to a minimum. IT systems will link the clinic to both the labs and radiology at Manama.

“Great care has been taken to design the facility for the needs of children too, with a dedicated children’s waiting and play area, a consultation room as well as immunisation and urgent care facilities.”

In April 2013, AMH joined the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network (GGHHN) which is part of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI).

The HHI is a US-based collaboration of hospitals and three non-government organisations formed to improve public health by speeding the implementation of sustainable operations in the health care sector. The GGHHN is an international initiative to reduce the health sector’s ecological footprint and promote public environmental health.

Dr Cheriyan said: “We are very excited to implement this initiative here in Bahrain in our clinics.

“We also have plans to launch another clinic in Juffair which should be open by March this year. This will be a medical and dental centre.”

Founded in 1903, the 110-year-old medical facility offers 24-hour emergency care at its Manama main hospital available seven-days-a-week.

The new Amwaj clinic timings will initially be from 8am to 8pm and will be extended as need arises.
