If you have been reading any of my recent articles you may realise by now that the vast, vast majority of supplements are nothing but hype, in my opinion. Minimal gains from a lot of investment often leads the consumer feeling worse off due to the stress of having to remember to take the supplement.
Now, not every supplement is pointless, but taking a supplement and thinking that it will make a significant difference to your results in a minimal amount of time is somewhat foolish.
Unfortunately we all buy into this hype due to outstanding marketing – even I have purchased supplements purely based on the packaging on more than one occasion.
I hope that this is the year that people see that hard work and consistency are far better things to invest in rather than supplements.
‘If It Fits Your Macros’ is a diet that has been going for years but has recently appeared popular with the internet bodybuilding scene.
The name doesn’t cover the whole of the idea, which is why I prefer to use the terms ‘inclusive’ or ‘flexible’ dieting.
I won’t go into it too much here but for those unfamiliar with this eating plan, basically with this diet a person is given an amount of calories, carbs, protein, fat and fibre. From there they are encouraged to eat a whole range of food to get to these numbers.
Obviously whole, natural foods including plenty of fruits and vegetables are encouraged, but no food is banned, as long as it fits into the daily numbers.
Moderation is encouraged which eliminates poor relationships with food that often lead people to binges and eating disorders. I think this is the year we may finally see the end of ‘clean eating’.
