Several equestrian events were planed for last weekend, however, torrential downpours on Friday put paid to Sahara Riding Centre’s event on Saturday morning, leaving some very disappointed riders.
Organisers say the show will be re-scheduled and details will be advised as soon as a new date is confirmed.
Friday morning, however, dawned clear and sunny, to herald Shakhoora Riding Centre’s first in-house dressage competition of the year. The first class saw the juniors perform British Dressage Introductory A and did so beautifully, Fabiola Mattias on her lovely horse Times Review clinched first place, but hot on her heels was Sonny Stephenson riding Shakhoora Cassi.
The adults were next up and, keeping it in the family, Cara Mattias manoeuvred her beautiful new steed Boeing into a flying first place, which put Melanie Spinks and the talented chestnut champion Billy into runner-up position.
The second test of the morning was the Preliminary; British Dressage number 13. This was the biggest class of the morning and Manni, ridden expertly by Liz Sinclair, took home the coveted winner’s prize, though it was certainly a winning day for the Mattias clan, Cara riding Times Review took runner-up position beating some very stiff competition. Jerri Taylor rode beautifully with Airforce One, and took the first of their day’s prizes home with a fabulous third placing.
The final class of the morning was the Novice, using the British Dressage Novice 32 test. This time, Airforce One did more than just dazzle the judges he put his wow factor into top gear and performed an exquisite test taking him into a well-deserved first place. Sara Al Mutawa astride Bart claimed second place and Liz Sinclair claimed her second prize of the day with Manni, taking third place. Yulia Frolova was fourth in this class but she was awarded the Best Turned Out prize of the day with her immaculately presented horse Dream.
The show was sponsored by Petrolink, who provided trophies for the winners.
