Gulf Weekly Celebration to mark milestones

Top management from popular pizza franchise Papa John’s visited the kingdom to enjoy a slice of the celebrations while marking two milestones in the company’s history.

Papa John’s chief operating officer Tony Thompson, below, was on-hand to celebrate the brand’s 30-year-anniversary alongside its decade-long relationship with local operators, the Jawad Business Group.

During a press conference at Jawad Dome, in Barbar, the site of Bahrain’s first Papa John’s Pizza in 2004, Mr Thompson congratulated the Jawad team on its hard work and keeping true to the franchise identity.

Mr Thompson said: “Bahrain is a very successful market for us and Jawad Business Group has done a fantastic job - winning across-the-board on all measures.

“They are executing our better ingredients, better pizza brand promise extremely well, making us really proud as a global company. Aside from celebrating our 30 years growth, we are also celebrating working with Jawad for 10 years.

“Bahrain has made us really proud, its sales and traffic growth have been really good. They have great plans for the future and we are very supportive of them. We want to continue seeing them take the brand further and to grow it across the region.”

Currently, there are more than 120 Papa John’s Pizza outlets across the GCC. The business has gradually expanded to UAE, Oman, Qatar and, just recently, into the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. There are now 19 Papa John’s in the kingdom, 33 in the UAE, seven in Oman, 13 in Qatar and one in Saudi Arabia.

Chairman of Jawad Business Group, Faisal Jawad, said: “Pizza is a universal product. Everyone eats it - from meat lovers to vegetarians. It is especially loved by youngsters and they make a big chunk of the population of Bahrain and the GCC.

“We are extremely happy to have worked with the franchise and it shows through our growth. People in Bahrain love our pizza and our promotions such as our the ‘all-you-can-eat’ Ramadan offer for BD2.2, which was extremely successful last year, as were our Eid specials.

“We also make sure to add a new pizza every two months. Some do so well that we keep them on the menu. We recently added the Greek pizza which is proving extremely popular with our customers.”
