WHAT better day to celebrate the opening of a new Tiffany and Co. outlet than Audrey Hepburn’s 85th birthday?
On Sunday a select few gathered early morning in the centre court of Moda Mall to take part in a clichéd ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ by the new 1,898-square-feet boutique operated by the retail group, Bahrain Jewellery Centre.
Later on in the day the media were invited to tour the store and revel in the magnificent collections on show.
There have been some very fortunate women over the past 175 years that have opened up the famous Tiffany blue box revealing something glittering in silver, diamond or gold.
“You can always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you. I must say – the mind reels,” said Audrey, perfectly in her portrayal of the high-climbing socialite, Holly Golightly in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
The boutique’s interiors are inspired by Tiffany’s iconic New York Fifth Avenue store and feature original motifs from the Tiffany archives. Each design element is a tribute to Tiffany’s legacy of exquisite craftsmanship.
“The opening of our boutique in the Jewellery Court in Moda Mall marks a new era for Tiffany & Co. in Bahrain and underscores the importance of the market to our regional growth strategy. With the legendary heritage of Tiffany & Co. reflected in the new store design and the extensive collections of fine and statement jewellery now available, we are introducing an enriched Tiffany experience to our Bahraini customers,” said Laurent Cathala, Tiffany’s vice president of Emerging Markets.
Ever wonder the origin of the iconic key stamped with ‘please return to Tiffany’s?’ The product was introduced in 1969 and the store sold a key chain stamped with a registration number using these polite instructions. If you lost your keys, the idea was that the tag would inform the person where to return them. This place happened to be the company’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City. From there the owner would be identified, notified and reunited with their lost items.
As well as Bahrain, Tiffany & Co. retail stores and boutiques can be found in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Japan, Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Russia. The company also engages in direct selling through the internet and its catalogue and business gift operations.
