Gulf Weekly Equestrian aplomb

Al Maha Riding Centre is certainly seeing this season out with
aplomb. After a very successful equestrian event held during the previous week, the stables staged an Arabian Showing Event on Friday with some of the most stunning Arabs on the island being put through their paces.

The full results are listed below.

To add to this Al Maha Riding Centre will also be hosting an Open Show Jumping Event on May 16.

The event will start at 4.30pm and there will be three classes held. The first will be a timed jump-off for juniors only with fences between 70/80cms.

The following classes will be mixed for both juniors and adults, the second being a speed class with fences at 85/95cms over two phases.  The final class will be an accumulator with fences at 100/105cms, with the joker standing at a mighty 115cms.

Entry is free and there will be trophies and rosettes and prizes up to sixth place in each class.

To enter contact either Hussain Al Sada on 39683660, or Dawood Salman on 33721333 or email imat2010@hotmail.com

Entries can be handed into the stable directly by the closing date of Thursday, May 15, at 6pm.

Last Thursday, Twin Palms Riding Centre hosted its own In-House Dressage Event, using British Dressage Tests Preliminary 10 and British Dressage Test Novice 21 rules.

As everyone had been practising so hard for the BREEF event that had sadly been postponed, proprietor Anki Holmstrom deemed it only fair to see all the riders in action.

It was a lovely afternoon, with everyone making a huge effort. The aim of the afternoon was to offer positive reinforcement and constructive advice to riders to help them with dressage, so after the tests had been performed all the riders were given sheets with feedback and comments from the judges.

This sort of event is extremely beneficial to those new to competing and helps build rider and horse confidence.

One of the superstars of the afternoon was newcomer Kia Jarnfelt riding her horse Bluey. The pair’s performance in the ring was impeccable, smooth, consistent and correct – just what the judges ordered. This pair will certainly be the ones to watch out for in future dressage events.

Another delightful young pairing featured Mariella Forward and her new partner in crime No Trix. They entered both the Preliminary and Novice and rode beautifully. Veterans to the cause, Aimee Keen and Rio, also put in excellent performances.

Keshia Smith had her hands full as she executed some beautiful moves on both Wellington and Otto and Jacques Riviers, riding Santa in one of this pairs first dressage tests, did a fabulous job. Youngsters Maryam Al Khalifa also rose to the occasion with Shady and Pippa Fourie, who put Bling through his paces in the afternoon, obviously thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, leaving all champing at the bit for more.

* Twin Palms Riding Centre will host its in-house spectacular Twixsted event this weekend.  In the event riders have to execute three disciplines, namely a show jumping class, a dressage test and the famous cross country course.

The event will run on Friday, starting at 9am. Spectators and supporters are all welcome
