A TEAM of talented Bahraini students recently scooped a trio of awards for their short film, screened as part of the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (GOYS) Red Carpet programme.

The programme aims to encourage young people to produce short, meaningful films and the best of the bunch were screened in Cineco at Bahrain City Centre in front of a capacity crowd of officials and spectators.

The winning movie, Carousel, by a team called Flare Films, scored Best Picture, Best Producer and Best Sound Engineering, earning each team member the respect of their peers and a princely sum of BD400.

The plot follows a doctor who develops a medical device that allows him to travel into the minds of coma patients to wake them up. He travels into the mind of a girl and tries to convince her she is in a coma but she doesn’t want to listen as she loves the dream she’s in.

Producer Mohammed Zayani, 20, from Riffa, said: “It felt so great to win, it was unexpected and it felt so good to see our hard work finally paid off!

“We got Best Picture, Best Producer and Best Sound Engineering.”

“I’m very fortunate for having Flare Films as my team and have met many great and talented people through the journey. Our friendship is what I really have won.”

Script writer Yasmeen Abul, director Khalid Abdulmajeed, assistant director Mohammed AlAbbasi, marketing manager Ali Al Muharraqi, sound manager Ebrahim Rashed, director of photography Abdulrahman Abdulla, editor Basma Mahmood, art director Amal Alameer and team coach Ameera Al Qaed were all thrilled with the result.

They fought off strong competition from the other teams; Mass Production, Wolves Production and Subtitle Production.

“I loved every team’s creativity. The other movies were great and each had it’s own uniqueness. Everyone put so much afford in it and honestly I enjoyed watching them all,” said Mohammed.

After the screening, awards were given out for the best actor, actress, supporting actors, designer and cinematographer.
