The Ministry of Culture’s 2014 Bahrain Summer Festival runs until August 30. All events are staged at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC); some are free entry while others require tickets.

The UAE-produced show Abood’s Dream will run from tomorrow until Sunday. Abood is joined by the beloved grandmothers of the animated show FREEJ. Also, a full list of activities will be on offer at Nakhool and Nakhoola City for the duration of the festival. It will include a wide variety of workshops and lectures with artists from across the globe focusing on entertainment, learning and development.

A concert on Tuesday features Chico & the Gypsies, the latest project of Jahloul ‘Chico’ Bouchiki, co-founder of the legendary band The Gipsy Kings.

The band carries on its predecessor’s flamboyant Spanish flamenco and rumba-infused traditions.

Head down to the Royal Golf Club for its Links Friday Carvery Brunch which includes a range of starters, live cooking stations, traditional carved meats, desserts and more. There’s also a special section for children including a ‘create your own cupcake’ station. The brunch, from noon to 4pm, costs BD18 net for adults, including unlimited selected soft drinks, and BD27 net for adults, with unlimited selected house beverages. It’s BD9.500 net for children under-12 and children aged four and under can eat for free.

The Royal Golf Club will open its fourth public dining outlet, Repartee, on September 1. It will feature a light menu with Far East flavours and views of the golf course. There will also be an outdoor terrace. The restaurant will open from 5pm to midnight daily.

JJ’s Irish Restaurant is celebrating its 15th birthday on August 29 featuring British tribute act, Boy-band Legends. The group comprises of three singers belting out classic tunes from acts such as Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Boyzone, Take That, N’Sync, Blue, New Kids On The Block and Boyz 2 Men. ‘The Best Summer Camp in the World’ runs until August 31 at Adhari Park. The camp costs BD85 a month, including breakfast, and runs from Sundays to Thursdays from 8am to 2pm.

Transportation is also available at BD15. A donation of BD5 from every registration will be given to Sneha; a recreational centre for children with special needs run by the Indian Ladies Association.

City Centre Bahrain is staging its 3rd Annual Summer Camp featuring a variety of activities including sports tournament, leisure and entertainment, educational tours, mind games, fitness sessions and daily lunches. The camps are for children aged seven to 12 and are open from 10.30am to 1.30pm. The last camp starts on Sunday and runs until August 28. It’s BD25 to register and all fees will be donated to the Child Wish Society.

Footballing legends Graeme Souness and Gordon Banks will be coming to Bahrain on September 25 at Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa. TV pundit and former Scotland international Souness played with Liverpool, Rangers and Sampdoria, winning three European Cups, nine league titles and a plethora of British domestic trophies. Goalkeeper Banks was an instrumental part of England’s 1966 World Cup winning side. The duo will share their stories at 8pm.

Bollywood Steps, Dance and Fitness studio is offering a dance fitness and Zumba class on Friday from 10am to 11am and Saturday from 6pm to 7pm at the studio located at Ramli Mall Food Court. Its BD5 a class and funds raised will be donated to Tony the Dogfather’s Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Saar.

The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa has unveiled its new South African house band, The Black Notes, pictured left, playing a variety of music styles, including pop, jazz, R&B, country and more. The Black Notes will take part in most of the hotel’s events and provide entertainment at brunch as well as from Monday to Friday at Fiddlers Green.

The Chuckle Club is back next month featuring comedians, Michael Legge, Stephen Carlin and Bruce Devlin. The show on September 18 will be held at the British Club at 8.30pm and tickets are BD15. The comedians will perform on September 19 at The Regency Hotel’s BBQ brunch starting from 12.30pm followed by a show from 5pm to 7pm. For ‘brunch and a show’ tickets are priced at BD30++ and BD15 for just the show. Also on September 19, the acts will appear at the Royal Golf Club at 8.30pm priced, again with tickets at BD15 with inclusive meal options available.
