Today’s column will make you pay attention to your environment and your surroundings. What is the climate that you live in? What is the current season? What are the things that grow locally where you live?

Your body reacts to the environment around it. This same environment is what will offer your body what it needs.

So what can you do? Buy food that grows locally.

Why? Because it will give you the nutrients that you need according to the season; like dates and watermelon in the summer which hydrate you and give you energy.

Also, local crops will give you more benefits because they are picked fresh. Fruits and vegetables lose nutrients as soon as they are picked so imagine nutrient levels in crops that are picked weeks early and shipped many miles before we eat them. The fresher it is, the more benefits it will give you.

Locally grown foods also reduce your chances of allergies and give you what you need to heal your ailments. As the sages always say: ‘your remedy grows in your house’.

In a nutshell, eating locally-grown produce suits you better and your body will be more ready to receive it as it grows.

Ask about local farmers and locally-grown crops and you’ll soon start seeing their benefits on your health.
