Swiss singer Bastian Baker, right, is set to serenade the kingdom on Monday as part of the Bahrain International Music Festival.

The pop-folksy star and his band will be performing songs from his two hit albums including the career-launching single Lucky.

Bastian, 22, said: “It’s an honour to be a part of the musical festival and I’m really excited to be playing in Bahrain. We are very dynamic when we play and I hope the audience joins in the party.”

Bastian career took off when he started performing at a friend’s birthday party. “One of the guys in the room really enjoyed what I was playing and asked if I had a producer. I didn’t at the time so he offered to record one song for me.
 
“The song I recorded was Lucky and soon it was being played all over the radio stations in Switzerland.”

The single was released in 2011 and his debut album Tomorrow May Not Be Better won the ‘Best Breaking Act’ award in his home country. Bastian has performed in concerts across Europe and even opened shows for Elton John and Bryan Adams. The concert starts at 8pm at Bahrain Cultural Hall and entrance is free.

The Mövenpick Bahrain, Muharraq, will be going Yankee Doodle Dandy later this month with a series of US-style promotions starting with a Wild West themed Friday brunch on October 17.

There will also be a Californian Surf and Turf Dinner on October 21, an East Coast Miami Pool Party on October 24 and an outdoor pumpkin carving competition on October 28, amongst other attractions.

Pakistani singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, along with his troupe of musicians, will perform for the first time in concert in the kingdom at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, Sanabis, on October 17. Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform a set consisting of Qawwalis, Bollywood songs and soft melodies. There are several tiers of tickets available. The 34th annual Bahrain Marathon Relay is taking place on October 31, starting and finishing near the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir.

Entries will be strictly limited to 180 teams. The entry fee is BD175 per team for entries received on or before the Captain’s Meeting on October 18, or BD200 per team for payments received thereafter.
